The museum has many large documents and photos that it will make available to the public free of charge via download (these documents can be found in the downloads category). The majority of these documents will be in Microsoft Word or Excel format. If you do not possess a copy of MS Word or Excel on your computer you can download a free MS Word viewer or MS Excel Viewer here. These viewers will allow you to look at and print off the document but you won't be able to manipulate the documents content.

The photographs or images will be in .jpg format and can be viewed in any paint or photo manipulation package.

In order to improve download times we have compressed the downloadable documents using Winzip. In order to decompress and view the documents you must have Winzip available on your computer. You can download a free copy of Winzip here.

To download a zipped document and view it, follow these instructions. Before you download the document ensure you have a copy of Winzip and Microsoft Word/Excel or a suitable viewer installed on your computer.

Instructions on how to download a free copy of Winzip can be found here.

Instructions on how to download a free Microsoft Word / Microsoft Excel viewer can be found here.

How To Download A Document

  1. Left click on the document link you wish to download
  2. Ensure that the "save this file to disk" radio button is checked
  3. Click OK

You will now be asked to browse to where you wish to download the file. You can place the file in any folder on your computer but for purposes of this demonstration we will save it to the desktop. You do this by selecting  "Desktop" on the "Save In" drop down menu.

Click OK

The file will now download to the location you have specified (in this instance the desktop).

Go to the location where you downloaded the file (in this instance the desktop).

If you have Winzip installed "Right Click" on the file select "Open" from the options available to you.

Left Click on the "I Agree" button.

Winzip will open a window. In the central panel of the window will be listed files that have been unzipped (see files listed under name).
Select the file you wish to view by double left clicking on it. This will open the file in the appropriate program (MS Word or Excel).
To store the file safely on your computer; Go to File - Save As on the top menu bar of Word or Excel and save the file using an appropriate name in an appropriate location on your hard drive.
